While studying graphic art and painting, Udo Zembok discovered what he terms “transparent colour, the colour of watercolours that gives the illusion of being light”. By removing the opaque background of the artist’s canvas and replacing it with glass, Udo found he could experiment with the resonant qualities of light and how these can be expressed through colour. Udo describes himself as “perceptual” in that he desires to make the viewer actively perceive his work and thus his sculptures of light and colour elicit varied responses depending on the light, their orientation and the position of the observer.
