This pair of very rare hard-paste porcelain plaques frame biscuit medallions of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette of France. Bordered by an integral gilded porcelain frame, the panels have a pale blue (bleu agathe) ground with gilded marbling as well as un-glazed raised flowers in low relief.
Factory marks in orange under a crown for hard paste with the date-letter X for 1775.
From the collection of Liliane, Baronne Elie de Rothschild (1916-2003), the remarkable leading-light in the arts in France and collector with a particular interest in Marie-Antoinette.
