Literature

This large gobelet litron et soucoupe is of the 1st size and is decorated with a ground pattern of a pale blue ground with a rose trellis, and scenes with love trophies. These painted scenes are unusually elaborate and clearly intended to celebrate a romance with an arrow that has been fired through a flower garland and has hit the target of a large warm heart and a dove underneath which is a symbol of ever-lasting love.

Each piece has the factory mark of interlaced L's under a crown for hard paste, the date-letters AA for 1778, painter’s mark LB for Jean-Nicolas Le Bel (active 1766-93) and the gilder’s mark 2000 for Henry-François Vincent (active 1753-1806)
