Literature
This goblet Litron et soucoupe is of the 3rd size and has the factory marks enclosing the date letters cc for 1780. There is also the painter's mark nq for Nicquet (active at Sèvres 1764-92) and the gilder's mark 2000 for Henry-François Vincent (active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1753-1806).
The decoration with yellow-ground panels, roses and swags of cornflowers is very unusual and this scheme is more likely to have been made as one or two collector's examples rather than as a larger tea service.
In March 1780 Nicquet is recorded as painting three gobelets litrons of the third size and various other teawares with 'petites fleurs avec la bordure de diff. fleurs et guirlandes', which may well refer to the present cup and saucer and others painted at the same time.
