Literature

With the factory mark in blue enclosing date letter G for 1759; adjacent painter’s mark of a fleur-de-lys for Vincent Taillandier (active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1753-1790).

This shape is called 'seau à verre' in recent publications, though no existing examples can be linked to dinner services. Another example dated a year earlier than ours and with a bunch of flowers rather than the garlands of our example, is in the Chicago Art Institute.

The shape appears to have been the basis of the watering cans made at Vincennes and Sèvres.

Examples of this shape with ground colours include one in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, with a green ground [Porcelaines de Vincennes, Les Origines de Sèvres, Petit Palais, Paris, exhibition catalogue, 1977, no.276] and a pair with bleu céleste ground in the Forsyth Wickes collection at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts [catalogue no. 113].
