With the factory mark in blue enclosing the date-letters nn for 1790, adjacent painter's mark of a sword for Etienne Evans (active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1752-1807).
This large sugar bowl has unusual decoration with bands of soft-blue ground colour either side of ducks in landscapes painted in grisaille, monochrome grey.
The ducks are named under the base Le Canard siffleur and Canard Siffleur de Cayenne. They are taken from engravings in the Come du Buffon’s Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux, vol. 10.
