Literature

This large Victorian Goblet was engraved by England's foremost glass engraver of the 20th century with a view of Godmersham House in Kent amongst pseudo-rococo decoration. The designs were by Rex Whistler, England's greatest decorative painter of the inter-war period, who lost his life in 1944 in Normandy. Lawrence continued to engrave glass for decades including many celebrated royal commissions. This was a present commissioned by the owner of Godmersham, Robert Tritton, for his wife's birthday in 1940.

Lent to the exhibition Rex Whistler: The Triumph of Fancy, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Sussex, England, 14th April to 3rd September 2006.
